Prof. Harry Hausler, TB HIV Care’s CEO, recently represented TB HIV Care at the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) Country Operational Plan (COP) 18 Approval Meeting in Washington DC. Invited participants included representatives from PEPFAR Country and Headquarter teams, Global Civil Society Organisations, Multilateral Organisations, the Global Fund, and Ministries of Health.
PEPFAR is determined to make the COP process more inclusive, open and transparent. The meeting gave 22 PEPFAR-supported countries the opportunity to present how they are working to achieve the 90-90-90 targets. It served as a platform for PEPFAR partners to engage in dialogue around performance, strategies for reaching established targets, and to update work plans for successful COP implementation.
TB HIV Care will be adopting some of the best practices shared at the meeting to accelerate our efforts to test for HIV, improve yield, initiate antiretroviral treatment and retain clients in care to achieve viral suppression.
It was a significant meeting for COP partners and an honour for TB HIV Care to be involved, with Prof. Harry noting that ‘this has been a wonderful opportunity to share what TB HIV Care is doing and to learn from others’.
The three South African District Support Partners had a breakfast briefing meeting on Friday 20 A with CDC officials to prepare for an outbrief meeting with Ambassador Birx. This meeting provided the opportunity to share innovations and best practices and fostered a wonderful spirit of collaboration and teamwork for the success of all partners. Harry Hausler, CEO, with Ambassador Deborah Birx, after the signing of South Africa’s Country Operating Plan. Ambassador-at-Large Birx is the Coordinator of the United States Government Activities to Combat HIV/AIDS and U.S. Special Representative for Global Health Diplomacy. As such, she oversees the implementation of PEPFAR, the largest commitment by any nation to combat a single disease in history, as well as all U.S. Government engagement with the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
