The Eastern Cape Department of Health hosted a health awareness day on 15th February at the Thobi Kula Indoor Sports Centre in Komani, located in the Chris Hani District, as part of a back-to-school campaign.
TB HIV Care was honoured to be invited to participate in this important event, alongside esteemed guests such as MEC Nomakhosazana Meth, District Director CHD L Tywabi, Portfolio Head of the Special Programmes Unit, and local mayors Enoch Mgijima and Emalahleni. Representatives from the House of Traditional Leaders and several schools, including Olivert College, Nkwankca SSS, Moltino SSS, Queens High, Maria Louw High School, and Luvuyo Lerumo SSS, also joined.
The event included informative discussions about HIV, other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and the critical importance of condom use. These talks aimed to educate attendees about the risks associated with unprotected sex and to emphasise the role of condoms in preventing the transmission of STIs – and avoiding unplanned pregnancies. Through these discussions, participants gained valuable knowledge about maintaining their sexual health and adopting safer practices.
